Label first used in 2001 to describe the rapid development of the multilayered and epigenetic aspects of genomic architectures in the many organisms that have been sequenced. The term refers to information gleaned from studies in genomics, proteomics, transcriptomics, pharmacogenomics, toxicogenomics, etc.
