American Anthropological Association (AAA)

Largest and oldest active major anthropological organization in North America. Primarily represents the social science branch of anthropology (only about 15% of the AAPA hold concurrent membership). Evolved from the Washington (DC) Anthropological Association. In addition to divisions containing units of interests to cultural anthropologists, there are today (2003) major units for the Archaeology Division, the Biological Anthropology Division, and the Society for Medical Anthropology, among others.
