Ethonym used in the past to denote one of the races of humanity. Australoids included the indigenous peoples of Australia; it also included peoples that physically resembled the native Australians such as the aboriginal peoples of New Guinea and Melanesia, the Negrito pygmies of Indonesia and Southeast Asia, and some of the native peoples of Southeast Asia and India.
