B Antigen

Epitope that specifies the B in the ABO blood group. It consists of four precursor sugars attached to glycoproteins of the cell membrane, aka H substance, plus a specific fifth terminal sugar, galactose, that is attached by an enzyme. This enzyme differs from its homologue that attaches the A-specific sugar by one amino acid substitution.

See A antigen and O null allele.
