Pertaining to crude Lower Paleolithic bifacial choppers and hand-axes found in sites that date to the basal Pleistocene of Europe; archaic cultural stage named after a French site (Chellessur-Marne) where such tools were first discovered in 1847. Now called Abbevillian.
