D-amino Acid

Dextrorotatory stereoisomer of an amino acid; although both D- and L-amino acids have been isolated from proteins, all naturally occurring amino acids found in proteins belong to the L stereochemical series, and in the vernacular the D forms are therefore known as the dead form of the amino acid.

See racemization.
