DNA Profile

Unique DNA banding pattern profile for an individual, except in the case of monozygotic twins, who have the same banding patterns. DNA profiles are used to establish twin type, as well as paternity, by comparing DNA characteristics of cotwins, or fathers and children; also used in forensic applications for individual identification.

See DNA fingerprinting.
