1. mammalian order to which the colugos belong. Adjective: dermopteran. Consists of one living family, the Cynocephalidae. Considered closely related to both the Chiroptera and the Primates, with which they share a common ancestor in the Paleocene or earlier. Some extinct primate families, most notably the Plesiadapidae, have been removed from the order Primates and placed within Dermoptera.
