Dionysopithecus (Micropithecus) Shuangouensis Li, 1978

Monotypic genus of hominoids from the early to middle Miocene of China and Pakistan belonging to the catarrhine family Proconsulidae. Estimated body mass around 3.5 kg. Dental formula: 2.1.2.3; dentition suggestive of frugivory. In many respects Dionysopithecus is very similar in appearance to modern gibbons; it is also very similar to Micropithecus from East Africa and may eventually be referred to that genus as a species.
