Equatorius Ward, Brown, Hill, Kelley And Downs, 1999

Generic name proposed for c. 15.58-15.36 mya (Locality BPRP-122) Miocene Muruyur fossil hominoid fragments from Kipsaramon in the Tugen Hills, Baringo Lake District, Kenya. Remains are attributable to at least five individuals; the ape specimen KNM-TH 28860 is comparable to a more robust species, Kenyapithecus wickeri, but with exaggerated features. The proposal to reassign specimens formerly attributed to another species, Kenyapithecus africanus, to the new genus Equatorius has met with some resistance.

See Muruyur.
