Frankfort Horizontal

Predefined plane of orientation of the skull in side view in which the three horizontal reference points are the bilateral superior margins of the external auditory meatus (porion) and the inferior margin of the left orbit (orbitale). The Horizontal is a standard orientation for comparative purposes. Also spelled Frankfurt horizontal. Aka auriculo-orbitale.
