Franklin, Rosalind Elsie

English biophysicist; while she was working at Wilkins’ lab, Franklin’s X-ray diffraction studies on DNA crystals were instrumental in helping Watson and Crick deduce the chemical structure of DNA. Franklin died of cancer before the work was appreciated; some think that she would have been a strong candidate for a Nobel Prize, but Nobel Prizes are not awarded posthumously.
