International Commission On Zoological Nomenclature

The governing body that oversees and regulates the International Code of Zoological Nomenclature; this commission makes judgments on questions of validity and priority of taxonomic designations. Rules are slightly different for paleontological species in that a paleontological taxon becomes valid if it is used and accepted by continual use in the literature.
