Jurassic Period

Period of the Mesozoic era, lasting from approximately 190 to 136 mya; dinosaurs flourished; shallow seas in western North America retreated as mountains began to form. Ammonite fossils are very common; fossil fish resembling modern bony fish appear; large reptiles, both terrestrial and aquatic, become dominant animal forms, as reflected in the fossil record.
