Kada Gona

Region with multiple Pliocene-age archaeological sites in East Gona (EG10, EG12) found in 1992 in the Afar triangle, Hadar, Ethiopia, dated to 2.6-2.52 mya (single crystal laser fusion,40Ar/39Ar, and magnetostratigraphy). The surface sites contain thousands of pebble tool artifacts (cf. the Oldowan tool tradition) that are younger than nearby hominid remains; the Gona artifacts are at this time (2004) considered the oldest in the world. Aka East Gona, Gona River, Kada Hadar.

Cf. Bouri Formation, Hadar, Omo Valley, Lokalalei 2C.
