Laccopithecus Robustus

Primitive hominoid from the late Miocene of Asia belonging to the family Propliopithecidae; known from jaws, teeth, and an incomplete skull. Estimated body mass around 12 kg. Dental formula: 2.1.2.3; sexually dimorphic canines. This species has been suggested as an ancestor of the modern gibbons; its primitive hominoid features and geography are points that make the case for this primate over other known Miocene pliopithecids.
