Landsteiner, Karl

Austrian-American immunologist, Nobel laureate; discoverer of the ABO blood group system in 1900-02; discoverer of the MNS blood group and P blood group in 1927; co-discoverer of the Rhesus factor in 1940; discoverer of the polio virus; developed a clinical test for syphilis; co-developed techniques for paternity exclusion. Landsteiner’s work helped to establish the science of immunology.
