Le Moustier

Archaeological site found in 1908-14 near Peyzac, Dordogne, France, dated to 56-39 kya, and that contains Mousterian artifacts (the type site); hominid remains from several individuals included one adolescent male skeleton assigned to Homo neanderthalensis (or Homo sapiens neanderthalensis). Of two adults (Moustier 1 and 2), one has been re-excavated several times for the amusement of visiting dignitaries.
