Lufengpithecus Lufengensis Wu, 1987

Monotypic genus of hominoid from the late Miocene of China, belonging to the subfamily Dryopithecinae. Known from dentition and several skulls. Estimated body mass around 50 kg with extreme sexual dimorphism (greater than in any extant ape). Dental formula: 2.1.2.3; thin enamel cap on cheek teeth links it with Dryopithecus and suggests a frugivorous diet. Synonyms: Sivapithecus yunnanesis, Ramapithecus lufengensis.
