Lyon Hypothesis

1960 proposal by Mary Lyon that dosage compensation in female mammals is accomplished by the random inactivation of all but one of the X chromosomes. In a normal XX female, one X chromosome would thus be inactivated.

See female mosaicism for X, X inactivation, and Barr body. Aka Lyonization.
