Marsh, Othniel Charles

Taught paleontology at Yale. During several fossil-hunting expeditions to the western US, Marsh found many example of early horses; these fossils were used to support evolutionary hypotheses. Competed with E. D. Cope to find and name fossils. Colleague of the Social Darwinist W. G. Sumner.
