Masek Bed

Fossil-bearing sedimentary layer in Olduvai Gorge, Tanzania, dating to 600-400 kya (K/Ar) and yielding hominid fossils including Homo erectus (OH 23). Tools, which include many quartzite scrapers but no cleavers, represent an Acheulean phase. Fauna is similar to that of Olduvai Bed IV.
