Mesopropithecus Standing, 1905

Genus of extinct subfossil Malagasy prosimians belonging to the Palaeopropithecidae; this family is called sloth lemurs. Three known species, M. globiceps, M. pithecoides, and M. dolichobrachion; in form, appears very similar to Propithecus, but slightly larger. Materials relating to this genus were recovered in the south and far north of Madagascar. Arboreal; diurnal; limb structure suggests arboreal quadrupedalism with suspension as mode of locomotion. Smallest of the subfossil prosimians, weighing around 10 kg. Dental formula: 2.1.2.3/1.1.2.3 or 2.1.2.3/2.0.2.3; dentition suggests folivory.
