Morotopithecus Bishopi Gebo, MacLatchy, Kitio, Kingston, And Pilbeam, 1997

Hominoid from the early Miocene of Uganda; known from maxillary remains and several postcrania. The type specimen was originally referred to Proconsul, and the dental remains are almost identical to Afropithecus; owing to the lack of postcrania from the latter, it is not possible to compare any overlap. This species may eventually be referred to Afropithecus. Estimated body mass around 40 kg. Dental formula: 2.1.2.3. The postcrania known from Morotopithecus is derived and clearly allied to the apes.
