Paleoanthropidae

Putative hominoid family proposed by Louis Leakey in 1934 to include a presapiens clade that he suggested had branched off from the line that later gave rise to modern humans (see Neoanthropidae); the older family included the Neandertals, Broken Hill (Kabwe), Mauer, and the Asian hominids Pithecanthropus and Sinanthropus, according to Leakey.
