Pleistocene Epoch

One of the Quaternary epochs of the Cenozoic era, lasting from about 1.8 mya to 8 kya (0.01 mya); the Age of Glaciers, during which the genus Homo radiated into several species and adapted culturally as well as physically to several new habitats. Large Ice-Age mammals or megafauna appeared but became extinct by the end of the epoch (e.g. the mastodon, an elephant-like mammal, and saber-toothed cats).
