Protoadapis Lemoine, 1878

Adapoid prosimian from the early and middle Eocene, belonging to the notharctid subfamily Cercamoniinae; ten to twelve species, depending on authority. Protoadapis may be the ancestor to both Protonycticebus and Europolemur. Dental formula: 2.1.4.3/2.1.4.3; dental morphology suggests adaptations for herbivory, ranging from frugivory to a more fibrous and course diet. Body mass of the species belonging to this genus estimated to range from 700 g to 3 kg.
