Rangwapithecus

Genus of hominoids from the early Miocene of East Africa belonging to the catarrhine family Proconsulidae; one or two species, depending on author. Estimated body mass ranges from 9 to 15 kg. Dental formula: 2.1.2.3; shearing crests on molars suggest a folivorous diet. Appears to have inhabited tropical rain forest ecozones.
