Ray, John

English clergyman, naturalist. His classification greatly aided Linnaeus. Helped by patron and collaborator Francis Willoughby. Influenced by Nils Steensen, a Danish anatomist and geologist. His published work in botany became a standard reference text. It was Ray who in 1686 introduced the idea of reproductive isolation into the concept of a species.
