Red Queen Hypothesis Or Model

1. proposal that speciation is driven by competition among populations that share the same habitat; hence that as some species evolve others will be forced to adapt via countermeasures to the environment that has changed as the result of the others’ evolution. Aka evolutionary arms race, lag load, zero sum game.

2. sexual recombination is an adaptation which augments a population’s capacity to evolve quickly. A metaphor derived from a Lewis Carroll novel.

Cf. Red King effect.
