Shoshonius Granger, 1910

Genus of tarsiiform primate from the early and middle Eocene of North America belonging to the omomyid subfamily Anaptomorphinae; two species; one of the best known omomyids represented by several skulls and postcrania. Shoshonius shows a number of affinities with Tarsius, including large orbits and morphology of the auditory bulla; it is purported to also have anthropoid features and argued as a candidate for anthropoid origins. Estimated body mass around 160 g. Dental formula: 2.1.3.3/2.1.3.3.
