Spencer, Frank

British-born physical anthropologist and historian at Queens College, NY; trained as a microbiologist, Spencer worked in Canada at that profession before receiving a PhD at Michigan. He is known for papers assessing the work of Ales Hrdlicka and several papers on the early history of physical anthropology. Author of Piltdown, A Scientific Forgery (1990), and The Piltdown Papers (1990), and editor of a respected two-volume historical work, History of Physical Anthropology (1997).
