Tertiary-Quaternary Boundary

Cusp between the Pliocene and Pleistocene epochs set officially at 1.8 mya (stratotype at Vrica, Italy). There is mounting evidence for the rapid global buildup of glaciation c. 2.6 mya, however, and many scientists favor a recalibration of the traditional boundary to the older date. Aka Pliocene-Pleistocene boundary, Plio-Pleistocene boundary.

See the turnover-pulse hypothesis.
