Thompson, D’Arcy Wentworth

Scottish mathematician and biologist, Chair of Natural History in St. Andrews. Following Buffon, he raised biomathematics to a new level in his attempts to understand morphology in terms of reflexive, universal mathematical patterns. Authored over 300 scientific papers; his most famous book was On Growth and Form (1917). Awarded the Darwin Medal of the Royal Society in 1946.
