Xq-Yp Region

Nonfunctional 4 mb length with high DNA sequence similarity located on the long arm of the human X chromosome (Xq) and the short arm of the human Y chromosome (Yp). Because homologous regions exist on ape X chromosomes only, researchers have surmised that a massive Y-to-X transposition occurred 4-3 mya in the hominid lineage, and the human Xq-Yp nucleotide sequence divergence began at that time.
