Zinjanthropus Boisei Leakey, 1960

Specific nomen for a robust fossil hominid based on a famous type specimen, OH 5, a skull recovered from Olduvai Gorge at a Pleistocene site named FLK in Bed I found by Mary Leakey in 1959; although the genus (Zinj is Kikuyu for east and anthropus man) has been sunk into either Australopithecus or Paranthropus, the specific epithet boisei has been retained (Boise was a benefactor of the Leakey family during times of lean funding). Aka Zinj, Nutcracker Man, and Dear Boy.
