Zuckerman, Solly (Lord)

South Africanborn physiologist at Oxford and Birmingham (England); policy advisor; pioneer of field studies of monkeys and apes. Zuckerman was author of over 1000 scientific papers, including studies on human ovulation, the function of the pituitary gland, and hominid biomechanics. Author of The Social Life of Monkeys and Apes (1932), Functional Affinities of Man, Monkeys and Apes (1933), and a two-part autobiography, From Apes to Warlords: The Autobiography of Solly Zuckerman (1978), and Monkeys, Men and Missiles (1966).
