Accessory Olfaction System

Special sensory cells in the vomeronasal organ of the nose plus their connections to the brain. The AOS is distinct from the sense of smell, which is part of the main olfactory system. The AOS receives social and sexual signals in the form of pheromones from other members of the same species.
