Adenosine Deaminase

An enzyme that converts adenosine to inosine in the purine salvage pathway, and is essential to the production of T cells and B cells in the immune system. The ADA gene is located on HSA 20q13.1. Some 95% of the ADA cistron consists of introns; the 12 exons have a final translation length of 1500 base pairs.
