Adrenocorticotropic Hormone

A polypeptide secreted by the anterior pituitary gland; it controls secretion of certain hormones called adrenal androgens (e.g. cortisol) that originate in the adrenal cortex, and assist in the breakdown of fats. Aka adrenocorticotropin, corticotropin.
