Amoebiasis

Common protozoan disease caused by infection with Entamoeba histolytica; of Old World origin (tropical) and associated with poor sanitation and health practices. Inflammation caused by ingesting food or water contaminated with cysts of the amoeba which release in the intestines, and can progress to abscesses in the liver and other organs. Aka amoebic dysentery.
