Auditory Bulla

Protective bony housing for the middle ear cavity and the auditory ossicles contained within; found only in mammals. In primates it is formed by the petrosal portion of the temporal bone; used as an important diagnostic trait in early primates. Aka tympanic bulla, bulla tympani.
