Bet Hedging

Model developed by Schaffer and considered to be an alternative hypothesis to r-selection and K-selection. Bet hedging predicts that when there is high juvenile mortality in a fluctuating environment, longer-lived, slower-reproducing individuals will be favored, while in situations where there is high adult mortality, short-lived, rapidly reproducing individuals will be favored.
