Character Displacement

Pattern observed in some closely related populations, in which certain traits are more exaggerated or divergent where the ranges of the populations overlap. Increased difference between two closely related species where they live in the same geographic region; explained by the relative influences of intra- and interspecific competition in sympatry and allopatry.
