Chromosome Banding Technique

Any of several methods that treat and then stain chromosomes, producing horizontal bands of characteristic lengths that are numbered sequentially from the centromeres to the telomeres of each arm. The most common techniques are C-banding, G-banding, Q-banding and R-banding.
