Cognition

In humans, refers to mental processes such as consciousness and self-awareness as well as other mental functions such as motivation, learning, planning, memory and other analytical aspects of thinking. It has become an important area in primate studies including laboratory and field language studies. However, it remains controversial within biology because there is a historical prejudice against animal thinking in scientific studies, including the concern of anthropomorphism.
