Cytoplasmic Inheritance

Heritability of characters or traits whose determinants are not located in nuclear DNA nor contained in nuclear chromosomes; DNA that occurs in certain of the self-duplicating organelles located in the cytoplasm. One cluster of such extranuclear DNA in animals is located in the mitochondrion. Aka extranuclear inheritance, extrachromosomal inheritance, and maternal inheritance.
