2. in genetics, capable of expression identical to a dominant homozygote when carried by only one of a pair of homologous chromosomes. An allele is dominant if the phenotype of a heterozygote (e.g. Aa) is the same as the homozygote (AA) in an F1 cross. The other allele (a) does not influence the phenotype of the heterozygote and is called recessive. Noun: dominance.
