Measurement in behavioral studies expressed in units of time. It is used in three different ways by different authors.

1. length of time a particular behavior event lasts.

2. total length of time for all occurrences of the behavior over a specified time period. Also referred to as total duration.

3. average length of time for the behavior as it was observed. This is also referred to as mean duration.
