Label that subsumed much research relating to human origins in the Americas, especially that conducted in the 1960s when researchers were polarized into two camps favoring either a conservative (e.g. Folsom) time scale or an earlier (e.g., Monte Verde) time scale; even earlier entrance dates had been proposed (e.g. Calico Hills Early Man Site). Aka early man in America hypotheses.
